ABC has ordered five new series, not including David Hemingson’s The Deep End. The series that did get picked up are Cupid, Castle, The Unusuals, Better Off Ted and Single With Parents.
Steve McPherson (ABC Entertainment) added some hopeful news: “These are the initial pickups, but there are a number of other pilots we feel will also get the go-ahead in some form moving forward.” Other pilots that weren’t ordered to series on Monday, such as the Damon Wayans comedy Never Better, the legal drama from David Hemingson and the dramedy Good Behavior, could still be picked up at a later date.

Rumor has it that the Untitled Hemingson Project will be called The Deep End. ABC also released a short interview with David Hemingson in which he says the following about Roger’s character Cliff: ‘The law-firm’s head-viper is a guy named Cliff, who is the “prince of darkness”, the firm’s managing partner’.
Sounds promising! We’ll post more information as soon as we hear it…
As you know, Roger was cast as Cliff in the Untitled David Hemingson Project. The pilot for this series was filmed in June. After some silence, The Hollywood Reporter has published an update on this project:
“It’s pilot screening time this week at ABC. The field is being narrowed down, and there is speculation ABC might pick up a drama and a comedy series Friday. Overall, the network is expected to greenlight at least three projects each on the comedy and drama side.
(…) Additionally, 20th’s untitled Dave Hemingson legal dramedy screened well Wednesday.”

On Thursday, August 14, there will be a Young Frankenstein performance at Broadway In Bryant Park (NYC). Please note that Roger will not be appearing. However, I still recommend everyone to go and cheer for Roger’s Young Frankenstein colleagues. The event starts at 12:30pm.
City Guide Magazine talked to Beth Leavel, who recently joined the Young Frankenstein cast as Frau Blucher. The lovely Leavel briefly talked about working with Roger and she was full of praise for her new co-star…
Leavel says that being onstage with Roger Bart “is such a blast that I can’t wait to go to work. He’s so hilarious that it’s hard not to crack up. I’ve been a long-time fan, but hadn’t known him,” she says. “Now I understand why I’d been such a fan: we speak the same kind of comedy language.”
